This medal is associated with the devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, a Marian devotion originating from the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830 in Paris, France.
Design
Front: An image of the Blessed Virgin Mary with rays of light streaming from her outstretched hands, symbolising the graces she bestows upon those who ask. Surrounding this image is the inscription "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee", a reference to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
Back: The reverse features a large "M" surmounted by a cross, with two hearts below: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, crowned with thorns, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, pierced by a sword. This side may also include twelve stars, representing the twelve apostles.
